Support The Line and join a visionary community of people and organisations who share in our mission to democratise access to art, nature and heritage in East London.

Since 2015, The Line has created pathways for local people, visitors and local charities to access the unique combined benefits of art, nature and heritage on East London’s waterways. Through spending time outdoors and engaging with art, our programmes connect people to place, enable social connection, develop skills and promote creative education.

Our Patrons form a central part of The Line’s journey and growth, enabling our ambitious exhibition and engagement programmes to thrive. Your support can help to realise site-specific commissions by artists on the route, contribute to the delivery of our popular wellbeing programmes, springboard our Youth Guides into new career opportunities, facilitate outdoor learning with local schools, and much more.

Patrons of The Line receive invitations to launches of new artworks and private events, such as behind-the-scenes artist studio visits and exhibition tours, as well as updates on our programme. As a Patron, you will also have the opportunity to book bespoke walks for yourself or a small group with Sarah Carrington, Director of The Line, to gain a deeper insight to the art, history and heritage found along the route.

If you are a US taxpayer, you may want to donate with the assistance of the Chapel & York 501(c)(3) American Friends of The Line to make your gift tax effective.

If you are interested in joining a visionary community of individuals by becoming a patron of The Line, please do get in touch with christy@the-line.org to discuss how you can support.

Charitable Trusts and Foundations

As a registered charity delivering an ambitious programme of public art and community engagement, The Line relies upon the philanthropic support of charitable trusts and foundations to maintain and develop our vital work with schools, communities, artists and the general public across boroughs with significant economic, health and social challenges.

The support of trusts and foundations makes a vital contribution to our work across a range of programmes: commissioning public sculpture from emerging and established artists; connecting local schools and communities with art, nature and heritage through workshops and artist-led activities; supporting mental and physical health through our Wellbeing Walks, working in partnership with local health prescribers and organisations, and providing employment and career pathways into the arts and creative industries for young people in Newham, Tower Hamlets and Greenwich through our Youth Guides programme.

To learn more about our current projects please contact The Line.

Purchase an Edition

The Line, in collaboration with Plinth, is delighted to publish a series of limited editions. This inaugural collection features editions by artists Rana Begum, Serge Attukwei Clottey and Laura Ford, whose works have featured on The Line. Each artist has translated the thinking that inspired these large-scale sculptural installations into editions that can be enjoyed at home.

We also welcome Mark Wallinger’s Thumb Print (2015), a limited edition print produced to support fundraising for The Line.

The sale of the editions will support The Line’s ongoing exhibition and engagement programmes.

Find out more on Plinth.

About the pieces

Serge Attukwei Clottey, Common Men Series, XLVI (2023)

For this new edition by Serge Attukwei Clottey, the jerry can resembles the masks that schoolchildren made from recycled materials as part of Clottey and The Line’s Longitudinal Dialogues workshops, which connected six primary schools in London and Accra, resulting in a synchronised procession across both cities responding to plastic pollution and sustainability. Generously supported by Simchowitz Gallery, published by Simco Editions and printed with POV. Studio in Los Angeles.

Laura Ford, Bird Boy in Puddles (2023)

Laura Ford returns to the endearing, uncanny sculpture of Bird Boy (without a tail) (2011), which stands on a pontoon in the Royal Docks as part of The Line. Generously supported by Bo Lee and Workman Gallery.

Mark Wallinger, Thumb Print (2015)

Turner Prize-winning artist Mark Wallinger has produced a limited edition print, Thumb Print, to support fundraising for The Line. The artist’s own thumbprint is framed within the shape of a credit card, another guarantee of identity. The action of a thumbs up is captured in this work. The lines are reminiscent of the contours of a map, reflecting the unique journey that visitors to The Line experience.

Rana Begum, No. 1287 Mesh (2023)

In this work, Rana Begum has translated the thinking that inspired her large-scale sculptural installation on The Line into a limited edition that can be enjoyed at home. Supported by Kate MacGarry Gallery.
