Millennium Mills
The Millennium Mills was a huge flour mill built in 1905 by Vernon & Sons in West Silvertown. The mills were named after their most famous product: Millennium Flour.
Located on the edge of Royal Victoria Dock, it helped to make this area the largest centre for flour milling in London. At their height Millennium Mills could produce 100 sacks of flour an hour.
In 1917 fire at a nearby munitions factory destroyed much of the building. The company was taken over by Spillers in 1920 and they switched to producing dog biscuits and animal feed. In 1933 the complex was rebuilt in the Art Deco style we can still see today.
