Bees in Silvertown Quays
Silvertown Quays is a deserted, overgrown patch of land near the Millennium Mills awaiting redevelopment. In the meantime, it has been converted into a bee paradise with a dozen hives from Bermondsey Street Bees set up here in 2018.
While this may seem an unlikely home, urban brownfield sites like this are great for honeybees as abandoned land tends to be covered with native plant species that the bees love. There are around 70,000 bees in each hive.
